Wayne's World

I woke this morning to hear the announcer on the radio say, 'The Royal baby, Wayne', and I thought, 'Oh, good on them, they're going with what they like and not being snobbish or bound by stuffy tradition.

Then I realised that what she'd said was, 'The Royal baby, weighing ...'

Oh well. One day, maybe. In the meantime, I guess it's 'Welcome to the world, George/James/Henry/John'

(Within this limited set of offerings, I hope it's John, because that was my father's name - and yes, I do realise I'm not supposed to be interested in the whole affair, but anyone anywhere having a healthy baby is an occasion for rejoicing, and the baby's parents look to me as though they are without a mean bone in their bodies so what harm is there in being happy for them?)

    1. Perfect. And, if they don't go with that, I'm hoping for Marlon

  2. I'm hoping for Kkevyn but Wayne would be great even though there are not enough Ks for this era. I quite like Bruce but, as the little mite is British, we might have settle for Dave or even Rupert.

    1. You are so right - we don't hear 'Kevin' nearly often enough - and who knows, by the time the baby is actually king we may no longer have our own Kevin taking care of us.

  3. They didn't have much of a choice: George (which I guessed), Henry, William, Edward, Richard, James, Charles or, at a pinch, Stephen. Perhaps they should have delved further back - Alfred would have been good. Athelstan would have been even better. Or they should have headed north and picked Macbeth or Robert.

A King Robert might have pacified the rebellious Scots. Also, wouldn't the more egalitarian Australians love a King Bob?

However, I'm perfectly happy with the name and this evening, Mrs S and I will drink to the health of the new Prince George.

    1. Yes, Alfred, why didn't they think of Alfred? He could have been Freddie, Fred or Alf, depending on the circumstances.
